Understanding what "Japan" is
The word Japan has long been used without critically questioning its meaning. The Japan studies course intends to reconsider the meaning of this word. The many teachers and students at ICU all have different experiences with Japan. Through the exchange of opinions with a diverse range of people, the course of study provides a practical arena for considering various aspects of Japan, such as the historically constructed meaning of Japan and the nation’s position within the current of globalization.
