Travel through the past to understand the “present”

Historical studies form an academic discipline that allows us to travel through time. We invite students to take part in an exciting and intellectual adventure in which they set sail on the unknown seas of the past, referring to the historical materials left by those before us as nautical charts. Historical studies also provide us with an effective means for looking at the “present” from the perspective of the past by viewing the world throughout the course of time. People with a clear and critical view of the contemporary world must have deep insight into the past and hold a long-term perspective. These lectures will equip students with a multi-lens perspective for understanding cultural, religious, and social diversity by studying the history of Japan and many other parts of the world.
