Critiquing “femininity” and “masculinity.”
Human beings cannot live free of the categories of “male” and “female.” As we grow up, we inevitably learn the gender differences through the notions of “femininity” and “masculinity.” However, history shows that the concepts of human beings and social systems have been constructed based on male-centered thinking. Gender and Sexuality Studies will open a new academic horizon by visualizing this taken-for-granted order , and by re-examining the biases embedded in existing knowledge systems.
